Why Panama City Beach in the winter isn't just for the snow birds

When winter ice heads your way, drive south to Panama City Beach. 

The snowbirds have known this sage travel advice for many years.

Why I haven't applied their wisdom until now is beyond me.  

Well, that's not wholly true.  

I never thought of heading south during winter months because I always thought:

  • it would be too cold to swim in the water
  • and too frigid to soak up my vitamin D on the shore. 

We tested our hesitations this month, made like a snow bird, and headed south for January. 

And we were surprised by what we found.

Needless to say, it's beautiful in Panama City Beach, even in January, nothing like I expected.
