The traveling foodie's guide to Bowling Green

You're visiting a new place. What are the two questions you ask first? Mine are:

What should I do?

Where should I eat?

I answered the first question, what can one do in Bowling Green, in my last post. Today's post will answer the latter: where should you eat when visiting Bowling Green?

If you're like me, food is the way to your heart, and when you're traveling, it can make or break your travel experience. Knowing that, the Bowling Green CVB invited us to dine at the following restaurants:

  1. Lost River Pizza Co.

  2. Wild Eggs

  3. Montana Grille

  4. Steamer Seafood

Lost River Pizza Co.

This pizza joint has some street cred.

This was the best part of the whole dining experience: the pizza + crust.

This was the best part of the whole dining experience: the pizza + crust.

Pros: Pizza was delicious (award-winning in 2012), not crowded, casual neighborhood vibe with sports on multiple TV screens

Cons: Service was ok (we had to track our server down a few times and our bill was wrong), they charged for coffee refills (we just assumed it was free, I guess we should have asked), and the entree salad was sparse, made up of shredded lettuce and just a few vegetables.

Would we recommend? Even with the drawbacks, yes. If pizza is what you want to eat, do it here. The location is close to Lost River Cave Boat Tour; it makes for a convenient meal after your tour.

Wild Eggs

Ready for brunch.

Ready for brunch.

Retro and simple, this place was fresh from the moment we walked in the doors.

Pros: We loved this restaurant; ambiance was retro and egg-themed; service was friendly; menu was full of yummy, brunch options; and specialty coffee was served.

Cons: They close at 3pm.

Would we recommend? Yes! Contemporary and fresh, this Louisville-based restaurant is a gem for brunch lovers.

Montana Grille

"There's a reindeer on the wall!" was my kids' answer to why they loved this place.

Pros: Ambiance is like a log cabin, service was great and food arrived quickly, cornbread was heavenly, portions were large enough to share

Cons: There really weren't any cons! This was a solid dinner experience.

Would we recommend? Yes!

Steamer Seafood

The drawbacks to being a mom: my shrimp is never my own.

I will fall for a freezer of seafood--any. day.

The vibe in this place was half the fun.

The vibe in this place was half the fun.

Pros: The restaurant decor was half of the experience; the floor to ceiling windows made the space feel vibrant and open; the portions were large; the food was delish; the service was outstanding.

Cons: It's a seafood restaurant, the prices reflect that.

Would we recommend? Yes!
