Friday's MYSTERY getaway: A closer look at a Kentucky tradition
Here’s your Friday getaway:
kentucky derby museum
Where to go: Louisville, KY
Drive time: 2 hours 49 min
This trip is perfect for travelers:
who love horses, horse racing, and Southern tradition
You don’t have to be a racing fan to enjoy this museum. I think that’s the biggest takeaway I want you to know from this article. When I stepped into the museum, I had never wanted to attend a Derby race. It just wasn’t an experience I ever considered.
Leaving the museum, I was a fan…Go figure.
Will kids like the museum?
There are so many interactive displays, which makes this Kentucky attraction a wonderful stop for families with kids of all ages. There are many things they CAN TOUCH.
One traveler’s review of the Kentucky Derby Museum.
I've been to Louisville many times but this was my first time at Churchill Downs. The museum is fantastic! Included in the admission price is a multimedia presentation and a 30 minute walking tour that takes you out into the paddock area and out to the track.
The museum itself has a variety of displays, many with hands on displays and a great use of film footage, audio, and memorabilia. There's even an exhibit where you can sit on a "horse" and be the jockey for your own race.
I saw many kids in the museum who were having a great time with the interactive exhibits. There's also a nice gift shop and cafe adjacent to the museum. This is a great way to get a sense of the culture and tradition that is so important to Kentucky identity and horse racing. Don't miss it!
